Development of a Digital Library Technology Based on Redundancy Elimination and Semantic Elevation, With Special Emphasis on Trust Management and Security Maximization M. Bajec, D. Trcek, M. Krisper, S. Nektarijevic, G. Rakocevic, V. Milutinovic (SRB) with L. Luic (CRO) + M. Rudolf (SLO)

Objective ICT : Digital Libraries and Digital Preservation a) Scalable systems and services for preserving digital content: handling the whole workflow for different types of digital resources, guaranteeing their long term integrity and authenticity. Research should demonstrate the feasibility of systems and services proposed, and assess their use by organizations in large scale testbeds (e.g., science, business and financial records, public records, multimedia/audiovisual and performing arts). Our Competitive Advantage: New Algorithms and Workflow Enhancements on Top of All Above Our approach concentrates on all issues underlined above, plus an added value of crucial importance: (a) New algorithms for redundancy elimination, entity resolution, semantic elevation, and concept modeling, which are aware of trust and security needs, (b) Workflow enhancement mechanisms related to image processing and sensor networks. Appropriate PoC implementations with contents from two-dimensional art (with special emphasis on Slovenian cultural heritage) and comparative language translation (with special emphasis on languages of EU). Special emphasis on research methodology oriented to rich statistical analyses.

Systems and Services Integrative Collaborative Nota Benne: Interface Interaction

Workflow Sharing data: Infrastructure for institutional networking Sharing knowledge: DataMining + SemanticWeb + ConceptModeling

New Security Aware Algorithms Example #1: Krisper + Trcek + Bajec Example #2: Tomazic

Compatible with Existing Methods and Standards (Terminologies, Ontologies, Mark-up Languages) Like Those Used by the VPH Network of Excellence: Tentative list of core participants:

Our Competitive Advantage: New Algorithms and Workflow Enhancements on Top of 4.1.a (Added Value) Search enhancement algorithms for 2D art (image processing, sensor nets, etc.) Language translation for EU tongues (using the eSperanto pricipals, etc.)

FRI/LJ Crucial problems of digital libraries are: (a) Efficient redundancy elimination (RE), (b) Effective entity resolution (ER), (c) Appropriate semantic elevation (SE), (d) Adequate concept modelling (CM). Solutions to these problems bring the following benefits: (a) Storage minimization, which indirectly impacts the retrieval speed and storage cost, (b) Elimination of absurd scenarios, which are a consequence of opposing expert opinions, (c) Matching of semantic levels of typical inquiries and the knowledge in the database, which makes the retrieval more accurate, (d) Elimination of ambiguities due to the existence of words with identical spelling and conceptually different meanings, which often times makes the retrieved information useless.

FE/LJ Crucial problems of language translation are: (a) Speed of translation (b) Storage size for the vocabulary (c) Resolution of ambiguities, (d) Determination of the concept involved Solutions to these problems bring the following benefits: (a) Better speed of translation (b) Storage minimization, which indirectly impacts the retrieval speed and storage cost, (c) Matching of semantic levels of typical inquiries and the knowledge in the database, which makes the retrieval more accurate, (d) Elimination of ambiguities due to the existence of words with identical spelling and conceptually different meanings, which often times makes the retrieved information useless

Use Cases (Examples) Self-learning search based on self tagging in cases when tags for specific objects are missing and image processing confirms the existence of such objects Customer-satisfaction search based on utilization of wireless sensor networks Search which protects the owner of information form third parties Search which protects third parties form the owner of information

PoC Implementation Dissemination Analysis Beyond

Methodology: Objectives (SC) Objective 1: To generate use cases, based on previous research experiences of the entire consortium Objective 2: To develop the system architecture, based on the previous research experiences of FRI Objective 3: To develop intelligent algorithms using joint optimization, based on previous experiences of OPTILAB Objective 4: To develop a PoC software based on the previous experiences of ETF Objective 5: To select the content for the PoC demo, with a reduced set of functionalities, but large enough for experimenting in selected business scenarios, using the experiences of FHG Objective 6: To test the demo system in a number of specific business scenaria, in various countries, to compare experiences, to summarize the lessons learned, and to make improvements and recommendations for a market oriented prototype, which is not the subject of this proposal (it is supposed to be the subject of a follow-up spin-off activity) - all this for joint optimizations of RE, ER, SE, and CM, using the past experiences of SALERNO Objective 7: Same as above, for joint optimizations of RE, ER, SE, and CM, using the past experiences of FERRARA Objective 8: Verification of mathematical rigorousness, using the past experiences of KARLSTAD Objective 9: Verification of software rigorousity, using the past experiences of BSC Objective 10: Dissemination, using the past experiences of MAXELER

Methodology: WPs (MS)+ Ts + Ds The project can be organized in 11 work packages: ◦ WP0 Project management, RR ◦ WP1 Definition of use case scenarios, FRI ◦ WP2 Development of system architecture, FRI ◦ WP3 Development of intelligent algorithms, OPTILAB ◦ WP4 Development of PoC software, ETF ◦ WP5 Definitions and preparation of digital content, FHG ◦ WP6 Testing in environment A, SALERNO ◦ WP7 Testing in environment B, FERRARA ◦ WP8 Testing in environment C, KARLSTAD ◦ WP9 Final analysis and preparation of recommendations for clinical practice all over Europe, BSC ◦ WP10 Dissemination, MAXELER Specified work package leaders are tentative
