Parent Information Night Agenda: Welcome & Introduction Opening Activity Gifted Task Force Overview Mission Statement Timeline Participants Sub-committees Time Commitment 10 Minutes for Q&A

Welcome & Introduction Daniel Burkholder- Director of Special Education Dr. Susan Mowrer-Benda- Assistant to the Superintendent

Opening Activity Please take a few minutes to think about and answer the questions on the handout We will collect these handouts and they will be used by the Gifted Task Force

Gifted Task Force (GTF) Overview Mission Statement: Before the GTF can move forward with looking at what we need for our students we need to develop a Mission Statement Your answers on the handouts you just completed will be shared with the GTF and used to help develop the Mission Statement

Timeline GTF will begin with a Program Review completed by Christina Anderson (Consultant) The first Monthly Meeting will be announced to the participants and will be held sometime in October 2015 The GTF will take its time to look at the program starting with a Program Overview and concluding with a report which will be presented to the School Board with recommendations for moving forward. 8-10 months to due diligence to the process for our students in the Gifted Support Program currently and in the future

Participants Consultant- Christina Anderson Ed.D Parents- 2-3 parents from each level/building Gifted Support teachers (Mrs. Lewis, Miss Brodt, Mrs. Schmidt Regular Education teachers from each level/ building One Counselor from each level/ building School Psychologists School Board members- 1-2 Board members Principal and/or Assistant Principal from each building Director of Special Education- Daniel Burkholder Assistant to the Superintendent- Dr. Mowrer-Benda Superintendent- Dr. McHale- Small

Sub- Committees Needs Assessment Research/ Best Practices Site-Based Visitation Committee

Time Commitment We will be looking for parent volunteers to participate in the GTF. We will be meeting as an entire GTF on a monthly basis. These meetings will be a minimum of a ½ day commitment Everyone will be assigned to a Sub-Committee Depending on where we are in the process each Sub-committee will meet sometimes monthly to complete their assignments/tasks

Q & A We will take questions for 10 minutes Please write your questions down on the sticky notes provided so we can answer questions we do not get to in the 10 minutes allotted for the Q&A If we do not know the answer… we will look get back to you as soon as possible. Please keep your questions general and not student/child specific- We encourage confidentiality If you have any specific questions about your child please feel free to write them down or email me at daniel.burkholder@svpanthers.org
