Wi Fi Downtown Pittsburgh Process Initial discussion, RFI, 14 responses, 5 interviews, selected USWO Project Scope Deployment, backhaul, installation, installation, maintenance, management Funding $525,000 request from nine area foundations, PDP Executive Committee approval pending city approval of light poles, due diligence and final contract negotiations. Timeline City Council action on May 2, Network up and operational by the MLB All Star Game, July 11, 2006

Wi Fi Downtown Pittsburgh City Wi Fi Initiative PDP and USWO acknowledge the City may issue an RFP for a City-wide Wi-Fi network to a 3rd Party. PDP and USWO acknowledge it may not be practical for the City to overlay a network on top of the Wi-Fi Pittsburgh network in Downtown Pittsburgh. USWO agrees to technically integrate Wi-Fi Pittsburgh into any future City wide Wi-Fi network, meaning reciprocal user access authentication, automatic user roaming and general Internet access. USWO will negotiate with the 3rd Party selected by the City to enter into a wholesale (or capacity lease) roaming agreement whereby both users of Wi-Fi Pittsburgh and the City wide Wi-Fi networks will interoperate seamlessly. USWO agrees to enter into a separate agreement and negotiate in good faith with 3rd party to achieve wholesale (capacity lease) exchange rates consistent with industry practices at that time.
