DATA AND INFORMATION DATA – is a collection of unprocessed items, which include numbers, audio videos, text and images. INFORMATION – conveys meaning and is useful to people

CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPUTER SPEED – millisecond (thousandth), microsecond (millionth), nanosecond (billionth) and picosecond (trillionth).

1 second

CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPUTER ACCURACY – process data according to the sequence of instructions.

CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPUTER HUGE STORAGE AND FAST RETRIEVAL MEMORY TYPES: MAIN MEMORY, CACHE MEMORY AND SECONDARY (AUXILLARY STORAGE).

CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPUTER VERSATILITY FATIGUE-FREE – it doesn’t get tired of work and never loses concentration.

CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPUTER PROGRAMMABLE – can be program to function automatically and this differentiates it from any other calculating device. NETWORKING CAPABILITY – computers can be interconnect into a network.

CATEGORIES OF COMPUTER Personal (desktop) Mobile computers and mobile devices Game consoles Mainframe Supercomputers Embedded computers

CONVERGENCE May nag tweet! Rapidly changing technology, however, the distinction among categories is not always clear-cut (very definite)
