Assistere – Short Term Employee Benefits Consider the following: You in a car accident on 1 November 2008 You are in a coma, and awake on 1 January 2009 Your medical bill to date is R2,3million Your medical aid is responsible for R2million of that, the balance is for specialists that have charged 300% of the medical aid rate You leave hospital in a wheelchair, (as you are now paralysed) and you realise that you need to modify your house, your car, your entire LIFE Your employer gets in touch with you and tells you that your sick leave has been exhausted and you are now on unpaid leave
