History of Christ the King School Christ the King built in 1947 Relocated in early 90’s due to contaminated grounds that school was located on ( previous owner, Pittsburgh Paints) Relocated back to Christ the King in 1997 School remains in industrialized area: Castrol Oil, Chrysler and CN Rail system Higher traffic flow due to No Frills store Accessibility

History of St. Teresa School St. Teresa School was built in the mid 1950’s St. Teresa School was built for approximately 500 students – our current enrolment is just under 200 St. Teresa School is a three story building - upon entering you have a choice of going up the stairs or down the stairs to classrooms St. Teresa School is not an accessible building St. Teresa School has a concrete schoolyard- the limited green space is fenced off to the children unless it is too hot then they are allowed to sit under the one tree there!

Positive outcomes of Merger Increase awareness of Catholic education on the Lakeshore Increase capacity for our Catholic students Increase enrolment of our Catholic students Shared resources with Father John Redmond Secondary School and Humber College - with a specific connection to the Regional Arts Programme Have the opportunity to become an art specific elementary school in T.C.D.S.B.

Positive outcomes of Merger Benchmark school for Catholic system on the Lakeshore Leader in Environmental schools by accessing grants for Eco school buildings- City of Toronto-Green Roof Subsidy, Evergreen Foundation Greening architecture, Samuel Smith Park, landscape, location of proposed site Merger of both libraries Significant costs savings through consolidation and relocation of these schools (approx 2 million) Prohibitive to repair for Christ the King 50.86%

Programs We propose the following programmes be considered : An arts specific programme that could be partnered to the programme at Father John Redmond and Humber College A French immersion programme to bring our children currently in the public schools back to our Catholic community A day care centre, again so that we can be competitive with the public school and bring back our children to our Catholic community as well as meet the needs of our families A parenting and family literacy centre – see EDI results

Competition in the community Public schools in area have all been renovated or new builds in the last decade Provide daycare and provide bussing Provide French immersion Provide Special Education Classes Accessibility to resources- Special Ed., Child Youth Workers Accessible schools Approximately 600 Catholic children currently attend the public system

Recommendations All recommendations are meant to bring our children back to their Catholic roots Introduce an arts specific elementary school Introduce French immersion to southern Etobicoke Traffic flow analysis to avoid congestion due to 3 schools operating - Infrastructure for Kiss and Ride Security system both in and out of school due to area and traffic flow

Recommendations Streetscape Build an ECOfriendly building accessing all available government grants Prepare to cap population at children. We estimate an increase in our population as we recapture our Catholic ratepayers in our community Provide parenting and family literacy centre – as per the results of our EDI

Some input from our students on video was shown
