Rules and Procedures!!!! By: Ms. Murphy

Classroom Rules Rule 1: Follow directions quickly! What does this look like? Lets practice! Rule 2: Raise your hand for permission to speak! (During lessons or whole class discussions). Lets practice! Rule 3: Use class signals to leave your seat! Rule 4: Make smart choices! What does this look like? Rule 5: Be respectful to your classmates and teachers!

Entering the Classroom We make sure that we have all of our supplies we need for class: Science & Social Studies Binder, Daily Folder, and planner. We wait quietly in the hallway until Ms. Murphy invites us into the room. We enter the classroom quietly, walk to our assigned seats and start working on our bell work right away!

Class Dojo “What happens if I follow the rules?!” Ms. Murphy will reward you for awesome class behavior with Class Dojo points! If I see you following the rules and being awesome, you will receive a point. I will also reward your table with Table Points if I see you working together as a whole team, following our GROUPS rules. The table with the most points at the end of the week gets to eat lunch in the classroom and watch a movie with Ms. Murphy. You can also receive CLASS POINTS! These are for when the whole class is being totally awesome, on task, and working hard. I will give class dojo points as well as marbles. Once your class fills your jar with marbles, you will receive a class party that we will decide on. “Wow! Those are awesome rewards! But what happens if I am off task ?” If you are off task, Ms. Murphy can take away Class Dojo points. Oh no! “Okay, got it. But what happens with this Class Dojo points?” Great question! Wonderful things! After you earn 10 points, on Friday you get to choose a coupon reward. Also, your parents will receive a report of your classroom behavior and points.

Exiting the Classroom At the end of class, each table member will do their job to make sure their table is ready to be dismissed. Ms. Murphy will call on quiet, tidy table groups to line up. You will line go to your locker and get any supplies for your next class, then line up quietly and wait for your next teacher to invite you in.

Emergency Procedures Fire Alarm – SILENTLY (ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING) and quickly line-up at the door and follow teacher’s directions and head OUT of the building. Do not stop for anything or play in the hall. Tiger Down Drill – Lock door, turn lights off and SILETNLY and quickly move to the back corner of the classroom (around Ms. Murphy’s desk). We will wait silently until we hear the “All Clear Signal”. It is very important we do not talk at all during this drill. Shelter in Place – We will quickly and safely sit under our desks to protect our heads and bodies.

D.E.A.R. Time We will all participate in D.E.A.R. every day! It stands for Drop Everything And Read. So, we will read! When you enter the classroom, please have your book with you. If you do not have a book, you will have ONE minute to select one from my library. Choose wisely – you will not be able to exchange it. We will silently read. That means no voices, no drawing, no homework. Just reading. At the end of D.E.A.R, we will log our reading in our D.E.A.R folders. Ms. Murphy will be reading as well!

Classroom Jobs We will all take turns with classroom jobs. Everyone will get a chance at some point to have a job and help in the classroom. You are expected to appropriately perform your job, or you will lose it! That means no goofing around or not taking the job seriously. Lets go over the jobs!

Voice Levels and Signals When we work in the classroom, we have different voice levels we will work at. I will let you know what level we should be at and make it clear on the board for you in case you forget. You are expected to always abide by the voice level, to be respectful to your group mates and other students in the class. We also have different hand signals we use in the class while Ms. Murphy is directly teaching us or during silent work time. Lets practice!

Group Work During group work, Ms. Murphy expects ALL group members to actively participate with their group. Lets go over our G.R.O.U.P.S. chart to learn the expectations for how we work in groups!

Individual Work When we are working on our own work, like tests or worksheets, we will work quietly. Sometimes Ms. Murphy may have you work at a Level 0 (show me what a level 0 sounds like). Sometimes you may work at a level 1 (show me what a Level 1 sounds like). Please be honest with your work! I want to see what YOU know, not what you can copy from your neighbor or friend.

When Ms. Murphy Is Teaching… When Ms. Murphy is directly teaching (up at the front of the class talking), I expect you to be respectful and activley participating. This means listening and engaged in the lesson. I love to see students raise hands to answer questions and with their eyes and ears on me. I will give stickers for friends who I see actively participating in my lesson! I WILL wait for you to answer questions .

YAY!

Quietly and calmly!

Turn In Box The Turn In Box is located at the front of the classroom, by the board. Here it is! Each class has a place in the box for them to turn in their work. Please put your classwork in the correct section when turning it in!

Interactive Notebooks Our Interactive notebooks will be kept in the magazine folders at the front of the classroom. The Teacher’s Assistant will be in charge of getting the notebooks for their table when we need them. You will find your class color and table group’s box and bring it back to the table. When we are done with interactive notebooks, NEATLY put them back in the magazine holder and the Teacher Assistant will put the magazine holders back in the correct location. We will keep out notebooks neat, tidy and organized!

Hall Pass Of course you may leave the classroom to use the rest room or use water. HOWEVER, please try to only go once per class. If you leave the room to go to the bathroom, remember to get some water too! When you leave, you will sign out on the whiteboard by the door. You must write your name, destination (where are you going), and the time you are leaving (use the clock!). Remember to take the pass and BRING IT BACK! Ms. Murphy will be very sad if her cute passes go missing . Remember to use our classroom signals to ask to use the restroom or get water if Ms. Murphy is teaching or you are taking a test. Please do not get up out of your seat to ask me. I will say no until you correctly ask, by raising your hand!!

Pencil and Pencil Sharpener Pencils: There are 8 pencils in your table caddy (this thing). There is also a hand held pencil sharpener. It is the responsibility of the Pencil Person to make sure that there are 8 pencils in the caddy at the beginning and end of class. If a pencil goes missing, I will not replace it. You will only get a new pencil at your group if you bring me a pencil that is too short to use and I will trade you for a new pencil. You may use the pencil sharpener in your caddy to sharpen pencils during class time. DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR SEAT TO SHARPEN A PENCIL IN THE MECHANICAL SHARPENER. ONLY the Pencil Person is allowed to sharpen their groups pencils in the mechanical sharpener at the end of class. Empty your tables hand held sharpener into your groups trash can.

What’s In My Table Caddy? This is your table caddy! Each group has one! Each group also has a trash can. Your caddy contains: 8 pencils, 1 pencil sharpener, 2 boxes of crayons, 2 boxes of markers, colored pencils, 2 erasers, 4 glue sticks, and 4 scissors. You as an entire group are responsible for making sure your supplies are in your box and do not go missing. Your group also has a trashcan! This is where any and all trash goes that is made during class. DO NOT get up during class time to throw trash away. You have a trash can at your table.

Glue Stick Procedures Your table group has 4 glue sticks. Pretty please use them wisely!! The Table Captain is in charge of requesting a new glue stick when one is all used up. However, if Ms. Murphy notices that you are going through too many glue sticks, I will stop replacing them for your group.

Erasers Your table caddy has two erasers. Do not take them. I will not give you new ones if they go missing. Sorry. No excuses. Seriously though. Don’t take the erasers.

Library Procedures This is our beautiful classroom library! See all those labeled boxes with books in them? Ms. Murphy spent a long time labeling those boxes and organizing those books! When you take a book from the library, remember what box it is coming from. When you are done with that book, put it back in the CORRECT box! If the library gets messy, we will not be allowed to use it and that is sad.

Absent Folder This is our absent folder! If you are absent (you didn’t come to school one day), this is the first place you need to stop when you come back to school. Find the day you were absent from school, and take out all the work that you need to make up. If you were gone for two days, you will take work from the folders for both days. Turn in your makeup work the next day.
