Facility role The World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention: blueprint for action UN General Assembly and World Health Assembly Resolutions endorsement Global Road Safety Facility (GRSF): established to mobilize and allocate the necessary resources to implement the World Report’s findings and recommendations

Facility challenges Low and middle-income countries: increasingly aware of the challenge. Country level: institutional management functions are frequently weak.

Facility challenges (cont’d) THE NEED: to create the resources and tools to target initiatives at scale with the problem. Sequencing is crucial Leveraging is crucial Sustained focus for results beyond “action plans” with single interventions

Facility mission The Facility will generate increased funding and technical assistance for global, regional and country level activities designed to accelerate and scale-up the efforts of low and middle- income countries to build their scientific, technological and managerial capacities to prepare and implement cost-effective road safety programs.

Facility goals for LMICs Strengthen global, regional and country capacity to support sustainable reductions in road deaths and injuries. Catalyze increased levels of road safety investment. Accelerate knowledge transfer. Promote innovative infrastructure solutions to improve the safety of mixed traffic, mixed speed road environments.

The way ahead Ongoing dialogue with the donor community The Facility has built an integrated platform capable of managing the scaled-up response required in the context of growing global concern and commitment. Focus will continue to be on building country safety management capacity and strengthening strategic global and regional initiatives designed to support this (e.g. iRAP, RoadPol, HIGH).
