The name of the element is Nitrogen.

The Symbol of the element is a N.this N stands for Nitrogen. The atomic number is 7. The atomic mass is

Discovered by the Scottish physician Daniel Rutherford in It is the fifth most abundant element in the universe and makes up about 78% of the earths atmosphere, which contains an estimated 4,000 trillion tons of the gas. Nitrogen is obtained from liquefied air through a process known as fractional distillation

Nitrogen is often used in light bulbs in place of argon. It serves as a inexpensive substitute for argon in incandescent light bulbs. Nitrogen is used to preserve packaged foods, as it can prevent the oxidation of foods to maintain their freshness and delay rancidity. Nitrogen is used to make ammonia, which in turn is used in making fertilizers. Apart from making fertilizer, ammonia is used to create nitric acid, which is used in explosives.

Nitrogen can be found in both plants and animals. Nitrogen is the constituent element of amino acids, and amino acids are the basic units of proteins. Nitrogen is also the component of nucleic acids such as, DNA and RNA and neurotransmitters. Nitrogen is immensely important for plant life as well. Plants require adequate nitrogen for proper growth and development. In plants, nitrogen is a constituent of chlorophyll, the pigment which converts sunlight into energy. Nitrogen can found in the leaves, roots and also in the grains.

nitrogen is a Group 15 element. Nitrogen makes up about 78% of the atmosphere by volume but the atmosphere of Mars contains less than 3% nitrogen.

It is a relatively inert gas It is colorless, odorless and tasteless Liquid nitrogen is also colorless and odorless, and is similar in appearance to water. Density : 1.25*10-3 g.cm-3 at 20°C Melting point : -210 °C Boiling point : °C

It is non flammable and will not support combustion Energy of third ionisation : 4577 kJ.mol -1 Energy of second ionisation : 2856 kJ.mol -1 Energy of first ionisation : 1402 kJ.mol -1 Electron gravity according to Pauling : 3.0
