POP-UP MONASTERY Update – September 2013, Vienna Summer 2015 A Project of the Young Women’s Strategy of the EFECF

What is it and why? The Pop-Up Monastery is a part of the Young Women’s Strategy of the EFECW (decision: Loccum 2010) “Pop-Up” means to appear for some time in one place, close, and open again in another It will give women of different generations an opportunity to spend a week together sharing experiences in a modern monastic community (worshiping together, workshops, ecumenical exchange) – and helping to build the future of the forum

London August 2012 – the Royal Foundation of St. Katherine Where the idea was born (dreams)

Berlin February 2013 – Stadkloster Segen Where we were hit by reality (money, money, money...)

Hannover August 2013 – Kloster Mariensee Where our dreams became concrete

Profile: Kloster Mariensee - Surrounded by nature for outdoor spiritual experience - Cooperation with the local community and monastic community - (Partly) self-catering - Chapel/rooms for seminars - Three 1-week sessions - Between women each week - Simple lifestyle

Aims - Build a community of all generations - Be inspired by traditional and modern monastic life - Develop ecumenical spirituality - Work and worship - Sharing life and experience - Learning new skills - Apply the themes of the forum – ecology, economy and ecumenical sharing

Activities - Spiritual guided tours of the monastery - Handicraft: monastery embroidery project - Pilgrimage and other outdoor activities -Empowerment workshops - Silence and meditation - Herb garden - Singing and music - Icon painting - Vigil
