Rainier’s YTP program sought a way to provide meaningful job experiences for students with disabilities in a town with no businesses…

. So we brought the jobs to the students!

Set a priority to improve transition goals and services, Earned a YTP Grant and screened applicants for VR Assistance. FIRST Worked with PHC to develop scoring guides based on their trainings and the CRLS. THIRD Worked with McKinstry to develop funding sources. SECOND

Youth Transition Services works in conjunction with Vocational Rehabilitation to assist students with barriers to employment. YTP Seven students with barriers to employment were offered summer work under the supervision of a PHC/Rainier custodial coordinator and Rainier’s YTP Facilitator. SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

VR VR’s goal is to assist the YTP/Special Ed. students with realizing their potential by becoming a good student, a good employee, a good person, and obtain their highest level of independence possible.

VR & YTP – We’re Like THAT! We have a very good working relationship with excellent communication between our teams. The staff is very creative and willing to try new ventures with their jobs programs. They work extremely well together and with the VR staff with goal planning, exploring resources, and with problem solving. They are solution orientated. They care about the student as a whole person. They encourage growth in their student’s character and maturity.

PHC is committed to protecting and respecting the environment through dedication to eco- friendly business practices. They assume an active role in the environmental awareness and practice. Likewise, McKinstry is committed to energy efficiency and sustainability. We were able to create a partnership that was consistent with our own program’s values.

Inspired by our work with Special Olympics’ Project UNIFY

Inspired by our work with Special Olympics’ Project UNIFY, students in Life Skills work with non-disabled peers 1-2 hours daily during the school year to learn custodial skills and work toward certification with PHC under the supervision of Don Maas.

Classroom Instruction Model What we are doing now: Peer Models along with the students enrolled in the Janitorial Internship participate in lessons related to PHC learning modules Janitorial Internship students created SMART Goals related Janitorial skills (see next slide) Baseline Data was collected

Specific : The goal should identify a specific action or event that will take place. Measurable : The goal and its benefits should be quantifiable. Achievable: The goal should be attainable given available resources. Realistic: The goal should require you to stretch some, but allow the likelihood of success. Timely: The goal should state the time period in which it will be accomplished.

Classroom Instruction Model What we will add: Monthly observations that track time, quality, skill level, CRLS, location, and anecdotal notes (see next slide) Routine-based checklists for peer models to track daily progress Time standard for each room/location Milestone-reward system

Career-Related Learning Standards: Personal Management Problem Solving Communication Teamwork Employment Foundations Career Development Training Rubric: Quality and skill assessment
