WWW When your web pages are ready to go on the World Wide Web, you are ready to “publish” them, to make them accessible to the public. Are you sure you are ready?

tjmncxzkluow qws Oh baby, baby it’s a Wild Wild World… Standard copyright laws do apply on the Web and it is wise to avoid publishing the work (text, image, audio, video) of others without their formal permission.

1 – you’re safe with original materials. 2 – if you’re borrowing someone else’s material, license the right to use it. 3 – public domain materials are lucrative, but still it’s wise to investigate the copyright status every bit of item you wish to use. 4 – make use of fair use when you’re appropriating other’s web pages for your web pages. 5 – can you link to just any web sites? Is there a doctrine of implied public access on the WWW? 6 – if you’re publishing composite web pages, are you taking the pages out of their original context? Two primary methods to protect your site: technical countermeasures e.g. digital watermarking, spiders legal protection e.g. implementing a copyright strategy: 1)Ownership – 2) Notice – 3) Registration Have a clear understanding of what it is that you consider as being protected by copyright. Okay, you’re happy. Do you think others would feel the same about your web site? A-ah, not just yet… Is everybody happy now? Test it online. Get feedbacks from sample audience. Assess and analise them. Adjust.
