Page 2 OUR PURPOSE To introduce best practices for sustainably improving crop yields and quality for fruits and vegetable farming via the establishment of an experimental farm in Lamdong province. The farm will demonstrate best practices and provide education and will measure the impact on local farmers in terms of yields and quality. Initial focus will be on potato, if the model is successful it can be replicated and scaled up for other crops and locations.

Page 3 CURRENT PROGRESS South North -Harvesting is on progress with average yield of approximate 21 tons a Ha -Expanding the sprinkler irrigation to 80% PI direct farmer contract; saving 763,000m 3 water compared to conventional irrigation -FL2215 wet-season yield at 19 tons a Ha in average. Trial report for MARD approval on commercial production; can growth commercially both dry and wet season -The bacterial wilt hit on the late stage of 25 Ha Atlantic commercial production in Dak Lak made an average yield drop at 15.2 tons a Ha. -Average processed yield at 16.3 tons/Ha -Poor Village Projects in Son Dong, Bac Giang, and Cai Kinh, Lang Son delivered 436 tons to PI factory. -Lang Giang, Bac Giang turns to commercial production for exporting to Indonesia after 2 year experience “Poor village project”. -Exporting 500 tons to Indonesia -Tan Nong is on progress of Criss4All trial and registration for commercial production.

Where in Vietnam The project will focus on the Red River Delta and the Central Highlands regarding potato production activities 5 provinces were selected to initially focus on: Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Lam Dong The project is not confined to these provinces Marketing activities will focus on Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

Potato trials and potato variety registration Started with first season potato variety trials in North-Vietnam and Central Highlands: VCU tests Commercial potato production trials Contract signed with NCPT and FCRI for North Vietnam and with PVF center for Central Highlands 37,500 kg seed potatoes imported from the Netherlands to facilitate all trials In North-Vietnam trials completed and data being analyzed Feed back from farmers and local extension is very positive In Central Highlands trials will be completed in April/May

Field days organised For trials in North Vietnam several potato field days organized to share project activities and first trial results Visited by extension officers from provinces, representatives from MARD ( CPD), traders and farmers
