Maximum funding requested has increased to the following: Up to 50 students = $80,000 Up to 75 students = $115,000 Up to 100 students = $150, or more students = $185,000

FNP/PA Special Program Applications  will be released on August 9, 2013  Applications are due on September 27, 2013  The California Endowment has generously awarded the Song-Brown Program with $1.75 million for funding FNP/PA Special Programs Applicants will be able to request from $125,000 to $150,000 in Special Programs funding for a project no longer than two years in length. The Commission has the authority to lower requested amounts to a minimum of $100,000 based on how competitive the applicant’s proposal is. 26

The Special Program proposals should emphasize at least one of the following California Endowment priorities:  Address the social determinants of health;  Focus on increasing the number of health professionals from racial/ethnic and/or other underserved communities;  Target one of the 14 Building Healthy Communities or Central Valley Counties  Or include activities to increase primary care career pathways/pipelines. The Special Program proposal will focus on these 4 forms of the application 27

Social Determinants of Health (as defined by the World Health Organization) are the circumstances in which people are born, grow up, live, work and age, and the systems put in place to deal with illness. These circumstances are in turn shaped by a wider set of forces; economics, social policies and politics. The Central Valley is defined by OSHPD’s Shortage Designation Unit as Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tulare and Yolo. (These are also displayed on the next slide) The 14 Building Healthy Communities identified by the California Endowment are displayed on the next slide and can be found at
