Wind Resources Wind Resources Total 250 GW Mainly located in Northwest, west and the east-coastal region

Solar Energy Solar Energy u Average radiation is between 3360 to 8400 MJ/m 2 u 2/3 of the territory is above 5020MJ /m2 u Richest region is the west part of China, especially Tibetan Plateau

Current development status for Wind u Wind turbine installation –28 wind farms have been developed around China –The largest wind farm is located in Xinjiang, with about 100 MW –Total installation was 468 MW by the end of 2002 u Project investment –More then 60% the investment from bilateral and multilateral –Domestic investment is about 40% u Manufacture –6 manufactures can produce 600 kW system, including 3 joint ventures –1MW and above system is under the R & D

Wind turbine installation in China (MW)

Current development status for solar thermal u More than 1000 manufactures u Annual production is about 10 million m 2 u Accumulated the largest installation of 33 million m 2 by end 2001 in the whole world

Current development status for solar PV u Installation –more than 10 MW for household system –700 village power systems –more than 20 MW for commercial use u Manufacture –4 old manufactures with total capacity of 4 MW –4 new manufactures are under the development stage, at least one is targeted 20 MW production capacity per annual

Current development status for biomass u Biogas : –Over 1000 industrial wastewater /livestock farm large- scale biogas engineering –Annual biogas production 600 million m 2 u Direct burning of biomass –90% of the biomass for energy is direct burning for rural households u Other technologies –improved stove for biomass burning –Gasification for over 200 village gas systems –bio-diesel for 10,000 tons per annual

Current development status for geothermal u Power –total capacity of MW –mainly in Tibet MW u Heatng supply –traditional heating system about 15 Mm2 –geothermal heat pump systems are increasing like bamboo shoots after a spring rain

Part and Renewable Energy Industrial Development Strategy

Targets of RE Industry in 2005  By 2005, RE industry development will provide energy about 13 Mtce, equivalent to reduce CO2 10 Mt, SO2 0.6 Mt  Supply power for 1.3 million remote households  Provide 200K employee positions
