What is Plagiarism? Stealing someone else’s work and claiming it as your own Sometimes we do this without thinking This is LITERARY THEFT! So, … how can we avoid this habit?

Learn how To Take Notes!!

Why Take Notes? You take notes so you will,… Remember what you read Not copy someone else’s exact words Be able to put the information in your own words later

Rule 1: Write clearly. Rules for Note-Taking If you can’t read it later, it won’t do You any good!

Rule 2: Writing EVERYTHING is too hard! Outline

Rule 3: What is important about what you are writing? Focus and Think!

To summarize: Read carefully! Write clearly! Look away from text! Outline! Focus and Think! Put the notes in your own words!

More ideas: Make lists Highlight important ideas on a printed page Use graphic organizers Make notes on3 x 5 cards and organize in a pocket chart or on a table top Use lined notebook paper Draw a chart and fill it in Create a web Use a tape recorder, then transcribe the words into written form Use Inspiration or Kidspiration to organize your thoughts
