2 Argentina’s Revolution By: Hannah, Sloane, and Katja

3 Cause of Revolution Argentina's revolution, also called the May Revolution, started May 18 th and ended the May 25 th 1810 in Buenos Aires. It all started when Napoleon took the throne away from the king.

4  And then, he put his brother Joseph on the throne.  The people of Spain did not like Joseph!  They nicknamed him Pepe Botella or Bottle Joe because he was always drunk The New Ruler

5 Uh-Oh! Someone told! Spain tried to keep quiet about their conquering to their colonies. But somebody told! A British Frigate came and confirmed the rumors about Spain. 5

Viceroy Balthasar Hidalgo de Cisneros de la Torre tried to keep the peole calm. 7

8 The Revolution Part Then on May 18th, some citizens went to him and demanded a city council Cisneros to stall, But the group would NOT be ignored. Then on May 20th he tried to get backup with the Spanish military. They denied him and told him to go with the city council. The first meeting was help May 20th 8 PLEASE!!!

9 The Junta At the meeting they organized a provisional ruling junta (who-t-na) The junta consisted of Cisneros, Juan Jose Castelli, and commander Cornelio Saavedra But the people didn’t like Cisneros, so they said bye-bye to him. They then created a new junta, Saavedra was president 9

10 But then.... The May revolution started the path of independence for Argentina When the King was restored Argentina decided they had had enough of a monarchy So they declared their independence on July 9,1816 Spain was not able to take over Argentina again :) 10
