Peter and Judas Friends of Jesus

Aims for today  Examine the Easter story through the eyes of Peter and Judas.  Think about how they felt and why they behaved as they did.  Understand more about what forgiveness is.

Circle time

Reflection Write down something that you wish you hadn’t:  Thought  Said  Done (Nobody else will see what you have written)

The Miracle Maker As you watch the DVD, think about these questions:  How did Judas betray Jesus?  How did Peter let Jesus down? (2 ways)  How did all this make Jesus feel?  Have you ever let anyone down?

How Peter received forgiveness Listen to the story of how his friendship with Jesus was restored…

Peter was restless

They caught nothing that night

What an amazing turn around!

Peter swam ashore

Breakfast together on the beach

A quiet chat together

An introduction to abstract art This is art that is not concerned with looking real. Discuss what you think the next 3 pictures are about… What are they saying?

This one is called Woman Crying.

This one is called Wild Party

Down a lonely road

Try and suggest a title for this painting…

So how do artists go about creating pieces of abstract art? a) Think about form b) Think about symbols c) Think about colours

a) Form Play around with the shapes of things… Look at how the shape of these flowers has been used and played with.

b) Symbols What symbols connected with love can you spot in these paintings? Roses A heart A kiss or a hug Joined rings

c) Colour Colours often represent emotions… Which picture might show: joy? envy? fear? sadness?

Your turn… Create an abstract picture to fit the title: Forgiveness You might like to think about it in 3 sections: (i) The betrayal (ii) The journey of seeking forgiveness (iii) The relief and joy of being forgiven

The betrayal  Where will you start your picture?  Will you use symbols: - brokenness? - greed? - cowardice (not being brave)? - damaging words?  What shapes and colours represent the feelings:  Loneliness  Disappointment  Hurt  Anger  Fear  Sadness

The journey to seek forgiveness  Was this an easy journey?  How would others react to what he had done?  What about his shame?  How would Jesus react?  Did Peter need to be brave?  Was it hard for him to be honest about what had happened?  What colours and shapes will you use?  How will you link this section to what you have already done?

The joy and relief  How would Peter have felt? – what colours could show these emotions?  What might he do next? – how could you represent this in your artwork?

Explanation  How did you choose the colours in your piece?  Have you included any symbols? What do they represent?  What would you like someone viewing your painting to notice?
