READING COMPREHENSION During the school year, non-proficient students (as indicated by the ITBS reading comprehension subtest) at Taft Middle School will improve their reading comprehension skills as measured by an increase in the percentage of students scoring in the high and proficient levels on the ITBS reading comprehension assessment.

ACTION PLAN In-service training on research- based strategies: Paraphrasing GIST Framing

NEXT STEPS Has the current improvement strategy shown adequate growth? Which strategy proved most effective? Are the results enough to standardize improvement? Check 2007 ITBS results to compare data. Eliminate ITBS as the measure for this goal and use the SRI instead? This will provide for more frequent assessment so adjustments can be made as necessary

MATH CURRICULUM During the school year, study groups will be formed to implement the new math curriculum with integrity and accountability and to examine the curriculum for areas of application, connection, and extension for learners of all levels.
