Basic Math Skills Lesson 2: Reading and Writing Decimals p

Reading and Writing Decimals Place value helps us to read decimal numerals. To read a decimal numeral, use the following steps. If there is a zero or no number to the left of the decimal point, then skip Steps 1 and 2.

Definitons Decimal places: positions to the right of a decimal point.

Reading and Writing Decimals Step 1: Read the digits to the left of the decimal point as a whole number Step 2: Say “and” for the decimal point Step 3: Read the digits to the right of the decimal point as a whole number. These are the decimal places. Step 4: Say the place name of the last digit.
