Part Two: Renewing Your Mind Ephesians 4:23

Getting in Touch with Reality Session 6

Knowledge Objectives  Recognize why, without God, it is impossible to understand the world and your place in it.  Understand the dynamics of building a relationship with God Himself.

Application Objectives  Respond by recognizing the desire for God that He has placed within you if you are His child.  Respond by seeking God whole- heartedly and personally.  Respond by spending time interacting with God to develop that relationship.

Getting in Touch with Reality Session 6

An Alien in Times Square

More Than Relief from Problems  Christianity is primarily a relationship with the Creator.  God created man to be most satisfied, most joyful, and most useful when there is a personal relationship with his Creator.

More Than Being on Speaking Terms  There must be much going on between my soul and the Savior.

We Must Have a Desire for God  God has created in man the desire for Himself.

David Brainerd “Of late God has been pleased to keep my soul hungry almost continually, so that I have been filled with a kind of pleasing pain. When I really enjoy God, I feel my desires of Him the more insatiable and my thirstings after holiness more unquenchable.” “Of late God has been pleased to keep my soul hungry almost continually, so that I have been filled with a kind of pleasing pain. When I really enjoy God, I feel my desires of Him the more insatiable and my thirstings after holiness more unquenchable.”

St. Augustine “Thou madest us for Thyself, and our heart is restless, until it repose [finds its rest] in Thee.” “Thou madest us for Thyself, and our heart is restless, until it repose [finds its rest] in Thee.”

Psalm 42:1-2 “As the hart [deer] panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God.” “As the hart [deer] panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God.”

Psalm 63:1 “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.” “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.”

Psalm 73:25-26 “Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.” “Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.”

Psalm 84:2 “My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.” “My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.”

We Must Have a Desire for God  God has created in man the desire for Himself.  God is glorified when man takes his place of joyful, grateful dependence.  Solving problems without God is both arrogant and ineffective.

We Must Seek God  It must be a passionate search.  It must be a search for a person.  A Conversation with Coach

Living in the Real World  Requires that a man know the God who has revealed Himself to us.  Renewing the mind starts right here—with God.
