CTC 212 Measuring Dimensioning

Measuring (D) Distance Radius Angle Length Area (element, fence, union, difference, intersection, flood, points) –Mass properties and centroid Volume (3D)

Dimensioning Complicated and confusing Use trial and error until you figure out where all the settings are Open up toolbox in tools, dimensions

Two Methods Associative (default) –Links dimension elements to objects –Modifies dimension text automatically –Association lock must be on (settings, locks) Non-Associative –Takes up more space –Dimension text must be modified if you modify element

Dimensioning Linear (linear measurements) Angular (angle degrees) Radial (radius, diameter; w/ note)

Terms Dimension Line-line w/ markers at each end (arrows, dots, ticks) Extension lines-lines that extend from object to dimension line Arrows-placed on ends of dimension line Dimension Text-text string showing actual measurement Leader-line from text to an object

Element, Dimension Styles Can change multiple settings and save as a named style Settings: –Geometry –Units –Text (there are 2 more settings but we’re not covering in this class)

Element, Dimension Styles Geometry –Can change terminator arrowhead type (open, closed, filled) –Text/terminator fit options (force terminators/text inside or outside, etc.)

Element, Dimension Styles Units –Usually toggle on working units –Labels (settings, design file, working units) –Leading zeros –Trailing zeros –Angle formatting

Element, Dimension Styles Text –Style, font, height, width, underline –Formatting Aligned (or force horizontal for radial formatting) Location (inline, above) Terminator type (arrow, stoke)
