Plane Figures By Mr. Bales

Objective ZBy the end of the lesson, you will be able to identify, describe, and classify plane figures. ZStandard 4MG3.0 - Students demonstrate an understanding of plane and solid geometric objects and use this knowledge to show relationships and solve problems.

Introduce ZLet’s look at shapes that do not have curved surfaces. ZHow many faces does this solid have? ZAre the faces all the same shape? ZWhat is the shape of the face called? ZWhat is the shape of this face called?

Teach ZWhat do you call a plane figure with 3 sides? Z4 sides? Z5 sides? Z6 sides? Z8 sides? ZThese are all polygons. A polygon is a closed plane figure that has three or more line segments called sides.

Let’s hear from our dear friend Mrs. Verughese!! Mrs. Verughese!! Robo Works!!

Properties of Polygons ZA polygon is made up of line segments. ZThe sides meet at endpoints to form angles. ZThe number of sides is the same as the number of angles and vertices. ZAll sides of a polygon must be connected end to end. ZNo two sides may touch except at a vertex. ZA polygon has to have at least three sides. ZHas only one inside part.

Let’s Play Name That Polygon ZI will think of a polygon. As a table group, you will bid on how many clues you will need in order to figure out my polygon. The team with the lowest bid wins the chance to try to identify the polygon with that number of clues. For example, if a team bids 3 clues, I might give you the following clues for a square: Z1. The polygon has four sides. Z2. It has four right angles. Z3. It has at least three equal sides.

Thanks for watching!!! BALES BUCKS!!!
