- If you have a stroke, one of your options is to inject TPA (Tissue plasminogen activator) directly into the blood clot that is causing the stroke. This breaks up the blood clot that is causing the stroke so that blood can flow freely - Also, you can pass a special device from a blood vessel in the brain where the blood clot is trapped. A retriever then captures the clot and pulls it out of the body, which returns blood flow to the affected area - There is no medicine available for a stroke to make it better or prevent it

 You should have a physical evaluation before beginning an exercise program.  Have weekly cardiovascular exercise, Incorporate training for major muscle groups, and also Train on core strength, balance, and flexibility.  If you have a family to help you, they would need to make the home easier to use, for example; bed and bathroom should be easy to reach places and items such as throw rugs should be removed. They would need to help prevent wandering, help with cooking, eating, bathing, showering, dressing and grooming

 American Indians and Alaskan Natives are most affected by stroke; 5.3% of them have had a stroke  3.2% of African Americans have had a stroke  2.5% of Whites have had a stroke  2.4% of Asians have had a stroke

 Stroke- A stroke is the death of brain cells in a certain area due to not enough blood flow to the brain.  History: Hippocrates, the father of medicine, first saw stroke over 2,400 years ago. At this time stroke was called apoplexy, which means struck down by violence in Greek. Doctors had little knowledge of the anatomy/function of the brain, the cause of stroke, or how to treat it. In the mid-1600s Jacob Wepfer found that patients who died with apoplexy had bleeding in the brain.

 Some of the signs involved with stroke are: trouble with walking, trouble with speaking and understanding, trouble with seeing in one or both eyes and headache.  If you are ever experiencing any of these symptoms you should find medical attention.  Some of the factors that go in with stroke are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, Circulation Problems, smoking or alcohol use, physical inactivity or obesity which are controllable use factors.  Uncontrollable risk factors include gender, race, family, history or previous stroke.

 Every 45 seconds someone in America has a stroke.  There are about 266,000 stroke survivors with permanent disabilities.  Fewer than one in five Americans can identify even one stroke symptom.

 A stroke may cause many various problems such as paralysis, thinking problems, loss of memory, awkward pains, and emotional disturbance

 Post-Stroke Rehabilitation may begin when the victims condition stabilizes, generally 24 to 48 hours after a stroke  The Rehabilitation process can continue for years

 1 in 17 American deaths in 2006 were of stroke.  ¼ of all strokes occur in people under the age of 65

 S ickle Cell Disease is a major risk factor for stroke amongst younger people.  Stroke is the third largest cause of death in the United States
