3 Parts of Jonah’s Prayer 1.Summery of his prayer (vs.1-2). 2.Description of his experience (vs.3-6a). 3.God’s redemptive work (vs.6b-10).
Introduction and Summary Jonah 2:1-2 2 Then Jonah prayed to the L ORD his God from the belly of the fish, 2 saying, “I called out to the L ORD, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice.”
I love the L ORD, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. 2 Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. 3 The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. 4 Then I called on the name of the L ORD : “O L ORD, I pray, deliver my soul!” 5 Gracious is the L ORD, and righteous; our God is merciful. - Psalm 116:1-5

Jonah’s Experience Jonah 2:3-6a 3 For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me. 4 Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple.’
5 The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head 6 at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; Jonah 2:3-6A
