Today’s Objectives  Overview of options  Why are periodicals important  Titles and examples  Questions  Demo

 Infotrac Student has almost 700 full text periodicals and some reference content (Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine and Science)  Student Resource Center includes both Reference and Periodical content  Cross curricular content – covers history, literature, geography, science, health, biography and current events. InfoTrac Student and Student Resource Center

Competitive Overview ProductTotal TitlesActive TitlesFull TextActive Full Text InfoTrac Student Student Resource Center Gold Student Resource Center Silver Student Resource Center Bronze Student Resource Center Junior Mas Ultra -- School Edition

Why Are Periodicals Important?  Periodicals provide the most current fact checked editorially reviewed information  Periodicals bridge the gap between the reference book and the internet  Best of both worlds  Fact checked reliability of a reference book  Contemporary relevance of blogs and other internet sources which are inherently unreliable  They supplement the encyclopedia content  I.e. A biography on Anna Nicole Smith written in 2006 in a reference book will give accurate biographical information; however, will show her as still being alive. The periodical content brings the information up to date.

Full Text – the key to our competitive edge  Terms to know  Active Full Text: We currently provide the articles from the periodical in full text through the current date  Full Text: We currently provide full text of the article up to a specified end date. (I.e. The Backfile)  Embargo: We can only publish full text of the magazine after a date specified by the publisher.

What’s in it for your territory Local Newspaper Coverage Active Full Text Texas Newspapers: Austin Statesman (Austin TX) SRC Dallas Morning News (Dallas TX) SRC Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Fort Worth TX) Full text in SRC for 2000 Victoria Advocate (Victoria TX) IT Student and SRC Active Full text Florida Newspapers: Active Full text Florida Newspapers: Miami Herald (Miami FL) IT Student and SRC Northwest Florida Daily News (Fort Walton Beach FL) SRC Orlando Sentinal (Orlando FL) IT Student and SRC South Florida Sun – Sentinal (Fort Lauderdale FL) IT Student and SRC Tallahasee Democrat (Tallahassee FL) IT Student and SRC
