What are metals? Metals are shiny (luster) Metals are good conductors of heat and electricity. Metals can be shaped without breaking. Malleability is the ability to be bent, or flattened, or hammered without breaking. Ductility is the ability to be pulled into thin wires without breaking

What are metals? 75% of the elements are metals. Metals can be found on the left side of the periodic table. Some metals are more metallic than others.

What are metals? Mercury (Hg) is the only metal that is liquid at room temperature Chromium is the heaviest metal. Cesium is the softest metal. A Mohs scale is used to determine hardness. Corrosion is when metals combine with nonmetals in the environment. Reactivity varies quite a bit. Gold (au) is very unreactive. Sodium is very reactive.

How Do We Use Metals? Metals are used to make cars and buildings Iron combined with other elements make steel that are used in buildings and bridges Aluminum is used to make mirrors ,food wrap, electrical wiring and heaters. Batteries use the reactivity of metals to release electrons and generate electricity Metals are use in the medical field -pins in bones and replacing some parts in the body.

Which elements are nonmetals and metalloids? Nonmetals are located on the right side of the periodic table. Nonmetals have properties that are basically opposite to those of metals; they lack luster, are poor conductors of heat and electricity, and generally break or crush rather than bend. Many are gases. Bromine (Br) -only nonmetal that is a liquid at room temperature.

Which elements are nonmetals and metalloids? Most reactive elements are found in the second to last column on the right of the periodic table. These are fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine. They are called halogens. The gases in the last column of the periodic table are called inert or noble gases. They rarely react with other elements. Halogens Noble Gas Nonmetals

Which elements are nonmetals and metalloids? Metalloids have properties that are between metals and nonmetals. For example they look like metals but not as shiny. Like nonmetals they are not malleable or ductile. They conduct electricity better than nonmetals but not as well as metals. Semiconductor is a material that has properties between conductors and insulators. Examples of metalloids are Silicon (Si) and Germanium Metalloids

How do we use Nonmetals and metalloids? are excellent insulators; insulate electric cords to prevent shock Cl is used to kill bacteria (in your drinking water) Argon a noble gas is very unreactive-used in long-lasting colorful lights. Metalloids Boron is strong and lightweight and is used in modern aerospace structures  Si is used in computer chips.
