UDL Principles and Brain Process UDL principles help educators customize their teaching for individual differences in each of these three brain networks. A universally-designed curriculum offers students to learn in atmosphere of choice Recent research in neuroscience shows that each brain processes information differently. The way we learn is as individual as DNA or fingerprints. Research has identified three primary brain networks and the roles they play in learning.

Mindfulness  No Longer a nice thought to use  Reflection is no longer a luxury but necessary for our survival  Becoming more and more mainstreamed  Warming up for a sport, music, etc. Why not to learn???  Dan Siegel’s movie and worksheet

After Lunch  Animal School Animal School  Thoughts  Have you done this?  Have you been asked to do this?  How can we prevent this from happening?  Be a “Rebel” – you and your classes first – then others

THOUGHTS …… Need love and compassion to survive Energy and information = mind Care about your mind What makes a good peace maker Purpose to education is to have a happy peaceful life Does education prepare you to live WHAT MAKES A GOOD PEACE MAKER Can you be the change you want to see in the world (classroom)??? Cultivate a habit Lifestyle that makes peace Must have peace within to promote it To promote peace must feel it Spend time with your good habits

Definition of MindfulnessDefinition of Mindfulness (movies) Definition: Mindfulness refers to being completely in touch with and aware of the present moment, as well as taking a non- evaluative and non-judgmental approach to your inner experience. For example, a mindful approach to one's inner experience is simply viewing "thoughts as thoughts" as opposed to evaluating certain thoughts as positive or negative. The term comes from Eastern spiritual and religious traditions like Zen Buddhism. However, mental health professionals are beginning to recognize that mindfulness can have many benefits for people suffering from difficulties such as anxiety and depression.

Mindfulness Builds social and emotional intelligence Builds stronger minds and retention By training the focus through more mindfulness practices the mind can be strengthened and create more empathy and compassion within relationships strengthening and the training of the mind has and is being studied and has shown that children experience enhanced attention and have better ability to handle stress. Dan Siegel – Mind Up Movie –worksheet
