Presentation transcript:

CELL PHONE USAGE WHILE DRIVING INFLUENCE ON DRIVER'S REACTION TIME Igor Milanović dr Željko Ranković mr Aleksandar Gošić

Contents  Cell phones – necessity, but often used while driving.  Four sort of distraction: visual, auditory, physical and cognitive.  Vast number of cell phone’s functions.  Distraction of driver’s attention.  Even 50% of drivers use cell phone while driving.

Key results  Reaction time meter Multihrono 803,  20 drivers, each 15 tests,  Limit reaction time 0,540 s and less than 3 mistakes,  Average age years, driver experience 4-21 years,  Time measured with no usage, then with usage of cell phone.

Discussion  Statistical analysis by IBM SPSS Statistics SPSS.  Reaction time with no usage of cell phone – mean is s, standard deviation is Reaction time with usage of cell phone – mean is s, standard deviation is  Median value of reaction time increased by  Test of normality: Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk.  Paired-Samples T test is used for assessing null hypothesis.

Conclusion  Average increased reaction time by s.  Drivers could have expected that they will get signal to react.  Drivers who have not used cell phones made 49 mistakes (2.45 each driver), otherwise drivers who have used cell phones made 61 mistakes, or 3.05 each driver.  Cell phones have negative influence on drivers while driving.
