WHAT IS SUCCESS?

Measures of success The success of a business can be judged in different ways. They can be judged in: Profit. Size. Product Quality. Social responsibility . Consumer satisfaction.

Profit Most private sector businesses aim to make a profit. Therefore rising profits should signal improving success. Its possible to make higher profits if there is no competition. Therefore profits made in a competitive market might be considered more impressive.

Size You can measure the size of a business by looking at the: Turnover. The number of employees. Market share. The amount of capital employed. EU definitions of size.

Product quality Sometime they judge the success of a business by measuring the quality and innovation of a product. They are reflected by: Awards and prizes won by business. Media reports. Costumer surveys. Sales levels when new products are launched . Certification by international quality standards. improvement

Social responsibility Businesses judges success according to range of stakeholders, employees, suppliers and the local community that has their needs met.

Consumer satisfaction Businesses judge success by how the consumer or costumer have been satisfied by the product or the costumer service. As the costumers/consumers like the product and the costumer service, they will become loyal to a certain business, growing their costumer base

Judging success in the public sector Public sector objectives are linked to the quality of service and reducing costs. In addition to that, public sector businesses are judged by the performance of business, for example: examination results in schools The punctuality of public transport systems The response time of the emergency services Drop in crime rates The amount of waste sent to recycling units
