Presentation transcript:

For hundreds of years, textbooks have put a world of knowledge in the hands of students. But while the way people learn has changed dramatically, the traditional textbook has stayed the same.

PLPlebes Action Research Project: To develop, test and implement a plan to transition all primary textbooks to e-textbooks. To go from thisTo this

VIDEO

The big shift isn't that content is digital. It's that the learning culture is #beyondthetextbooks PROJECT GOALS. 1. Increase student achievement, engagement, and ability to learn to meet the demands of the connected world they are entering 2. Create and support opportunities for student learning through the use of technology as an extension of the classroom

OTHER BENEFITS Costs: E-Textbooks are less expensive. Safety: One laptop vs. numerous books in overloaded book bags. Access: Easy access on the net, no lost or stolen books.

1.Admissions & PTA: Parental support. 2.Facilities: Charging stations in classrooms. 3.IT: Wi-Fi access and Bandwidth. 4.Book Publishers: E-Textbook availability and distribution method. 5.Business Office: Current bookstore contract with Sodexo. 6.Sodexo: Coordination of book adoptions 7.Platform: BYOD or I-Pad. EXTERNAL SUPPORT ISSUES

How do we construct our test bed program? 1.Grade level: Start with upper or lower grades. Do we include the middle school? 2.Discipline: One discipline across all grade levels. 3.Voluntary: Teachers willing to make the transition. TEST BED PROGRAM ISSUES

Our challenge, our opportunity. One of the critical components to the success of this program is your input and support.
