HTTP-hyper text transfer protocol is used for handling the transmission of pages between a web service and a web browser FTB-file transfer protocol is used to rapidly transfer files TELNET-A program used on networks such as the internet to allow users to remotely log on to a server on the network.

GOPHER-one of the first widespread internet browsing service. Intranet-A network used by a single organized and only accessible by authorized users. Firewall-a network security system that prevents unauthorized network access.

Extranet- an extended intranet that provides various level of access to authorized memebers of the public. Online profiling- a marketing technique that collects online data about consumers. Cookies- small files that contain information about the website an individual has visited.

Usenet- a collection of severs that offer netnews. Bandwidth- the amount of data and the speed at which the data can travel over the transmission media. Client-a computer that accesses a server to request information

DSl- digital subscriber line Ethernet a widely used protocol for lans that uses a bus or star topology and connect the network device by twised-pair wiring, coaxial cableor fiber optic cable. Netiquette- the etiquette that should be followed when using a network.
