?? Did you know ?? - There are 178 different currencies and 192 countries in the world. This means there is a currency for almost every country! WOW! -The most commonly used currencies are: - the U.S. dollar - the Canadian Dollar - the Euro - the British Pound - the New Zealand dollar - the Australian dollar - the Japanese Yen

What Does It Mean? *Exchange Rate - between two currencies, the exchange rate specifies how much one currency is worth in terms of the other. *This means, when you visit a country that has a different currency, you have to exchange your money in to the currency of the country you are visiting.

North America

Canada United States Mexico and Central America -Canada also calls their currency the Dollar. -The penny, nickel, dime and quarter can be found here as well, but in the Canadian version. -America, uses the Dollar. -The U.S. uses 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 bills most commonly as well as the penny, nickel, dime and quarter. We also have The 50 cent piece. - Mexico uses a currency called, the Peso. - Other countries of Central America use their own currencies which you will learn about later.

South America

*What Should We Know About: South America* San Paolo, Brazil is one of the financial centers in South America and the 5th biggest city in the world There are 13 different currencies in South America. One for each country. The most commonly used currency is for the country Brazil. It is called the Real.

Europe

*What Should We Know About: Europe* The Euro is the most commonly used currency in Europe. Of the 48 countries in Europe, 20 of them use the Euro. The Pound is the second most commonly used currency in Europe. You can find this currency being used in England.

Asia

*What Should We Know About: Asia* Japan is one of the 45 countries in Asia. Its currency, the Yen, is the most commonly used currency in the Asia. I hope they like Japan!

Africa

*What Should We Know About: Africa* Since Africa is the poorest continent in the world, it has very few currencies. One of the few currencies is from South Africa called the Rand. In many rural areas of Africa the exchanged items, such as food, are more of value than official currency.

Australia

*What Should We Know About: Australia* Australia uses the Australian Dollar and is the 6th most commonly used currency in the world. Although apart of Australia, New Zealand is a small island off the coast and houses the New Zealand Dollar.

Antarctica….what??? View of the bottom of the earth There are no permanent residents, but people live in nearby islands and conduct scientific research for the continent. Sooo, does Antarctica really have a currency? This picture may look like it does, but NO, Antarctica does not have a currency. They design money for the continent using American Dollars and take money from other countries as well.
