What is my first step? Use Naviance to explore college and career options. Personality type assessment Career interest profiler Scattergrams Learning styles survey Determine your plan: work, technical school, military, 2 year college, or 4 year college. Work with your school counselor to finalize the list of colleges. Establish selection criteria: 2 year, 4 year, size, location, major, costs, athletics, selectivity, job placement rates, etc.

Naviance College Application Process Log on to using your Naviance username and password. (See your counselor if you need help) Go to the Colleges tab in Naviance and click on Colleges I’m Applying To.

Naviance Continued... Please do the following under the Colleges I’m Applying To tab: Add schools to your list –You must list all the colleges that you are applying to in order to have your recommendations and transcripts sent. View application deadlines: rolling, early action, early decision, regular decision Letters of recommendation: Teacher(s) and Counselor *please provide the recommender with at least 3 weeks to write your letter* To request teacher recommendations – Click add/cancel requests under the Recommendations heading to formally request a teacher’s recommendation letter. **Only do this after you have asked that individual in person and they said “yes.”**

Common Application What is the Common Application? The Common Application and Naviance/Family Connection are linked together. This allows us to send your college transcripts and letters of recommendation electronically. If you are using the Common Application to apply you must add those schools to your Dashboard by going to the College Search tab on the Common Application. Application Process Continued... Submit a completed Southington High School transcript request form to the Guidance Office a minimum of 3 weeks before your application deadline.Southington High School transcript request form Provide the teachers and counselor that are writing your letters of recommendation a completed Brag Sheet and do your resume in Naviance. You will need to complete two brag sheets, one for teachers and one for your counselor.teachers counselor Remember to send your ACT and/or SAT scores directly from the testing company to colleges. (you get four free reports prior to taking an exam)
