Photosynthesis. Plants = Producers All energy on earth comes from the sun. Solar energy is converted by: –Plants –Algae (underwater plants) –Cyanobacteria.
Photosynthesis. What is Photosynthesis? A process that converts light (solar) energy into stored (chemical) energy in the form of food molecules like.
Photosynthesis & Respiration. What is Photosynthesis? The process of photosynthesis is a chemical reaction. It is the most important chemical reaction.
Cell Energy. Energy from the sun Plants use the sun’s energy to make sugar. The sugar is called “glucose”. Glucose is stored in the plant and used by.

Van Helmont’s Experiment and Photosynthesis

Van Helmont Experiment  5 pound tree  200 pounds of soil  Water is added over a 5 year period  Predict what will happen

After 5 years  Soil: 199lbs, 14 oz.  Tree: 169lbs, 3 oz.  lbs.=pounds  oz.=ounces  Were you right?

Photosynthesis  The process by which a self-feeding organism can convert light energy into chemical energy in the form of glucose (sugar)  Purpose  To change light energy into chemical energy (stored in the bonds of glucose) C 6 H 12 O 6

Photosynthesis: Equation CO 2 + Water Glucose O 2 + O 2 Carbon Dioxide and Water in the presence of Glucose Oxygen Light MAKES Glucose and Oxygen Light

Where does it occur?  In chloroplasts  Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll

Light Energy  Energy from the sun travels to the earth

  Light energy from the sun  Chemical energy in the bonds of glucose (product)  Chemical energy in the bonds of ATP TRACKING ENERGY

ATP  A molecule that stores the energy living things need to survive

Other photosynthetic organisms  Cyanobacteria, algae, and more!

Elodea Lab

 How did the tree grow? Use the term photosynthesis in your answer.
