Environmental science is The study of how humans Interact with the environment.

The major focus of environmental Science is to solve environmental Problems that WE created! The term environment refers To everything that Surrounds us.

News reports area heard daily That sound the alarm of Health risks from chemicals In the soil, water, and even in The food that we eat. Every informed citizen thinks About the changes in our Environment.

Solving these problems can Become very complicated And expensive. This can be done though, The drinking water from Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River are much better than Even a few years ago.

Although there seems to be An unlimited number of Environmental problems, They all fall into 3 categories… Resource depletion Pollution And Extinction

Natural resources can be Considered as any natural Substance that living things use. Such as… Sunlight, air, water, Minerals, plants, and Fossil fuels.

A nonrenewable resource is Any resource that cannot Be replaced. A renewable resource is Just the opposite, those that Are replaced.

Pollution is the introduction Of harmful levels of Chemicals or waste material Into the environment. Scientists estimate that Thousands of species are Becoming extinct every year.

Many environmental problems Are global problems. Such as pollution released from Coal power plants causes Acid rain that falls everywhere.

The biosphere is the thin layer Of life that exists around The Earth. It is roughly 8 km above and Below the Earth’s surface.

No matter what country People live in, they are in The biosphere. A developed country is Highly industrialized and Have high incomes. Developing countries are less Industrialized and their citizens Have much lower income, Like India - $2700 a year.

Many environmental problems Are linked to increasing Human populations. This leads to a population crisis And a consumption crisis.

The major goal of modern Environmental science is to Move toward a sustainable World. A sustainable world is a world In which humans can continue To exist indefinitely with a high Standard of living and health.

There are 2 basic types Of science… Pure sciences And Applied sciences

A pure science seeks to Answer questions about how The natural world works. An applied science uses Information to solve problems. Biology - Physics - Chemistry Environmental – engineering

One of the most important Foundations of environmental Science is ecology. Ecologists study how living Things interact with each other and their surroundings

When making environmental Decisions, many things Need to be considered. Economics, religious, scientific…
