DEFINITION Plot is a literary term defined as the events that make up a story particularly as they relate to one another in a pattern in a sequence through case and effect or by coincidence.

EXPOSITION introduces all of the main characters in the story shows how they relate to one another Main character learns their goal
RISING ACTION Introduces the conflict Main character begins towards it (conflict)
CLIMAX Turning point of the story Overcomes the conflict Most exciting part of the story. All stories can have multiple conflicts
FALLING ACTION Loose ends are being tied up Has a lot of tension because it seems like all is going wrong in many books or plays
RESOLUTION Final confrontation between protagonist and antagonist Conflict gets wrapped up Questions answered
EXAMPLES The plot in Tell No One was very interesting because the author used multiple points of view to give the reader different angles at the plot. The reader gets to see both the good and bad of the plot. In Fight Club the plot is very interesting because it keeps you guessing. There are many different conflicts throughout the book.
