Metric System Objectives 1. give the advantages of the metric system 2. match the base unit to the type of measurement 3. list the common prefixes

Metric System  developed by the French in the 1700's  later modified to the SI (System International)  most commonly used as the "kms system" (kilogram, meter, second)  we use the United States Customary System (USCS)

Why doesn’t the United States use the Metric System? ????????????????

Advantages of the Metric System uses decimals instead of fractions one base unit per type of measurement  uses prefixes to change units by multiples of 10

Base Units Measurement SI USCS distance meter inch, foot, yard, furlong, mile volume liter teaspoon, tablespoon, cup, pint, quart, gallon mass gram slug force newton ounce, pound, ton time second electric current ampere energy joule foot•pound temperature °Celcius or Kelvin °Farenheit
