Organisms VS Environment Objective: Population changes occur which introduce, reduce, influence changes. Standard #6: Ecology Ecology is the study of relationships.
Population Ecology. Population All the organisms of a species that live in a an area at a certain time Populations change when – new members are added.
CHANGES IN POPULATION SIZE Population can change in size when new members join the population or when members leave the population. BIRTH RATE: The number.

ECOLOGY STANDARD 6C FL #6 Populations: THE CAUSES OF FLUCTUATIONS IN POPULATION

A POPULATION INCLUDES ALL THE ORGANISMS OF THE SAME KIND IN AN ECOSYSTEM.

THE 4 THINGS THAT AFFECT POPULATION SIZE: BIRTH IMMIGRATION EMIGRATION DEATH (+) BABIES ARE BORN (+) INDIVIDUALS MOVE IN (-) INDIVIDUALS LEAVE (-) INDIVIDUALS DIE

BIRTH ADD THESE TWINS TO THE HERD AND THE COUNT IS UP BY 2 WITH THIS CUTE LITTLE GUY THE COUNT IS UP BY 1 MORE – A TOTAL OF 3

IMMIGRATION IF THESE 3 JOIN THE HERD – HOW MUCH HAS THE HERD INCREASED TOTALLY? THE HERD IS NOW 6 ELK LARGER

BIRTH AND IMMIGRATION INCREASE A POPULATION 5 ELK + 3 BIRTHS + 3 IMMIGRATIONS = 11 ELK

EMIGRATION THESE ELK ARE LEAVING THE POPULATION IN SEARCH OF GREENER PASTURES 11 – 2 = 9

DEATH THIS ELK IS DEAD 9 - 1= 8 Did you ever wonder, what happened to Bambi?

BIRTH AND IMMIGRATION INCREASE THE POPULATION EMIGRATION AND DEATH DECREASE THE POPULATION

A POPULATION IS AFFECTED BY 4 SEPARATE EVENTS. BIRTH AND IMMIGRATION WILL INCREASE THE POPULATION WHILE EMIGRATION AND DEATH WILL DECREASE THE POPULATION.

WHAT 4 EVENTS AFFECT THE SIZE OF A POPULATION? BIRTH IMMIGRATION EMIGRATION DEATH

IN A POPULATION THERE ARE 3 BIRTHS, 2 EMIGRATE, 1 DIES AND NONE IMMIGRATE. THE POPULATION WILL CHANGE BY HOW MUCH? A. 0 B. 1 C. 2 D. 3

FOR A POPULATION TO REMAIN THE SAME WHAT CONDITIONS MUST OCCUR? A.DEATHS MUST EQUAL IMMIGRATIONS AND BIRTH EQUAL EMIGRATIONS B.BIRTHS MUST EQUAL IMMIGRATIONS AND DEATHS EQUAL EMIGRATIONS C.IMMIGRATIONS MUST EQUAL EMIGRATIONS AND BIRTHS EQUAL DEATHS D.BIRTHS MUST BE GREATER THAN DEATHS AND EMIGRATIONS LESS THAN IMMIGRATIONS
