Sentinel: Making Safety Work Safety can no longer be an afterthought or a separate program. – Concentrate on analyzing tasks and performing them properly. ORM is supposed to fill gaps in existing regulations – ORM is not a substitute for the “regs”; it is an extra tool to assist in evaluating situations Bottom line: – We integrate safety into our operations by shifting focus to proper training and pride in doing the job right – We obey the law and CAP regulations without fail. – Finally, we use ORM to address those situations that are

New Injuries for Sep WHILE MARCHING, CADET STEPPED IN A SMALL HOLE IN THE GROUND AND OVER-EXTENDED HIS RIGHT FOOT, AGGRAVATING AN OLD INJURY. CADET RE-AGGRAVATED A BACK INJURY WHILE DOING A TEAM BUILDING EXERCISE. EMT PROVIDED A CHEMICAL COLD PACK. CADET ADJUSTED THE PACK AND GOT SOME CHEMICAL ON HER HAND THEN IN HER EYES AFTER SHE RUBBED THEM. SHE FLUSHED HER OWN EYES WITH WATER, APPEARS TO BE FINE.

Aircraft SEP 09 SEP 09 ACCOUNT OF MISHAP ACCOUNT OF MISHAP DURING A PREFLIGHT, A SMALL CREASE WAS FOUND ON THE TOP OF RIGHT ELEVATOR SKIN. UNDER INVESTIGATION

Aircraft SEP 09 ACCOUNT OF MISHAP ACCOUNT OF MISHAP APPARENT HANGER RASH WAS FOUND ON THE TOP LEADING EDGE OF THE VERTICAL STABILIZER WHEN IT CAME TO KSGS FOR PERIODIC MAINTENCE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DROPPED OFF ON MONDAY. THE MAINTENANCE CONTRACTOR FOUND THE DAMAGE ON WEDNESDAY WHEN HE MOVED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE HANGER. UNDER INVESTIGATION

Annual Safety Day CAPR JUNE 2008 Para 3.h “ An annual Safety Day will be held in all units sometime during the month of October to focus on improving safety knowledge and attitudes during the new fiscal year.” All units will select a day to review: Incident Summary Jan-Oct 2009 – Select: MNCAP website, Intranet, Safety, Incident Summary Complete discussion focusing on improving safety Report completion to through Group CC to Wg/SE by 1 Nov 09

Safety Survey CAPR 62-2 para 3.c “ Each safety officer shall complete the on-line Safety Survey not later than 31 January of each year. Items to be addressed in this survey shall include, but are not limited to, those listed in the on-line Safety Survey found in e-Services. Once completed, this report will be sent automatically to the safety officer and the commander at the next higher echelon.” MN Wing requirement, complete by 10 Jan 2010 Must be competed on line – Select: eServices, Safety Form 78, then Safety Survey
