www.totalsoccermethod.com What is the Total Soccer Method: functional, deliberate individual development within team development. To ensure the optimal development for all players the TSM has designed a comprehensive model for long term development which integrates all aspects of the game. The Total Soccer Method is a dynamic, progressive, player oriented and based on the decision making model.

Total Soccer Method To clarify how the method is build up we are using a pyramide. The bottom layers or building blocks are not more important then the top ones because they are broader. Each building block is equally important but the shape of the pyramide shows that we are working towards something. The first five building blocks are training. The sixth top is the game. We are working towards execution of what we train, learn and develop in training into a game.(decision making) The top of the pyramide is the smallest but not the least important. Each building block has equal value and importance and they influence and overlap eachother. The key is to determine what building block(s) should be emphasized in what fase of players’ developmental stage.

Total Soccer Method In this presentation we focus on the building block Game Mastery. In this building block, Team Tactical training is a major component.

Total Soccer Method High Pressure Football What is High Pressure Football and how wo we implement this in our training and games? (team development) What is High Pressure Football: Limit time and space for the opponent Force the opponent to make mistakes / bad decisions Try to win possession of the ball as quick as possible / high as possible Pressure opponent on the ball Avoid scoring chances High pressure marking (spacial) even in possession

Total Soccer Method High Pressure Football Where High Pressure Football: Using the 1/3’s of the field. This depends quality of opponent, own qualities. For each 1/3 there are tactical guidelines. Important is that these guidelines are known to all players. (each player has his own responsibility) Pressuring to quick might mean an early long ball by opponent.

Total Soccer Method High Pressure Football Why High Pressure Football: To gain possesion quicker To increase chances of possession To be dominant in a game Force the opponent back towards own goal

Total Soccer Method High Pressure Football How do we play High Pressure Football: Individual: Keep direct opponent in front of you Force your opponent to a side Try to get opponent with back to you (esp. with ball) Force opponent to bad ball/bad 1st touch Force opponent to uncontrolled long ball Play from your zone

Total Soccer Method High Pressure Football How do we play High Pressure Football: Team: Always play from good organisation/shape Pressure collectively Quality coaching/communication All lines (defense, midfield, attack) should be linked up Compactness: side to side, front to back, pinch/support Force opponent inside (into pressure)

Total Soccer Method High Pressure Football When do we play High Pressure Football: Goal-kick keeper Throw-in Build-up opponent (defending 1/3 of the opponent) Bad (1st) touch/control opponent Ball in to midfielders (tight spaces) Difficult ball to opponent (e.g. with back turned, side-line, tight space) Pass-back to keeper

Total Soccer Method High Pressure Football Things to be aware of when playing High Pressure Football: Space behind own defensive line Many defensive 1 v 1’s Quality opponent vs quality own team When high pressure doesn’t lead to possession Goalkeeper opponent is capable of playing out from under pressure Spaces left om contra side/flank (opportunity to switch point of attack) If high pressure doesn’t lead to grip on opponent, don’t be afraid to drop off

Total Soccer Method High Pressure Football can be played at all ages. It is imperative to train HP before expecting players/teams to be able to implement this tactic/style of play in games. Training should be geared towards High Pressure. This can be trained in: - Passing/receiving exercises & 1 v 1 (defense) (TSM Ball Mastery-building block) - Small sided games, up to 4 v 4 (numbers up/down) (TSM Complexity-building block) - Positional games (TSM Game Mastery-building block) - Team tactical training (TSM Game Mastery-building block) Implementation in to games (TSM Competion Mastery-building block)
