 Developed in Andean South America around the same time as Olmec(Mexico)  Chavin artist created ceramic religious vessels and decorated seashells with images like cats  Mysteriously disappeared around BC

 Had a large farming class, and a small elite class made of military, political leaders, and religious leaders  The worshipped a God that was part Jaguar and Human  Made 15 giant stone heads that where up to 40 tons made of basalt which was 50 miles away, proving they were an advanced civilization

 They were located in the Oaxaca Valley centered on Monte Alban  They had a calendar and a logo syllabic system of writing that was an example for Maya, Miztec, and Aztec  They had ball courts that were used for ancient ritual ball game

 Machu Pichu was one of their cities, it was made of stones that fit together perfectly not needing mortar  Quipu was a string system of keeping records  They forced poor people to do labor like building roads, fortresses, and irrigation systems

 Tenochtitlan was the main city in the empire. It may have had 200,000 inhabitants. It had pyramid temples, markets, and palaces.  Lake Texcoco was the lake that the Aztec civilization was built on, Chinampas

 Glyphs was the only complete writing system in the Americas, it was a picture based writing system  The Mayan empire controlled the Yucatan Peninsula
