OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FOOTBALL OFFICIATING CLINIC 2011 The Small Stuff Matters

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff??

The Small Stuff Does Matter When officiating you do need to sweat the small stuff and get it right every play, every time.

Pre-Snap Ball mechanics Correct spotting Confirm down Observe substitutions Count players Get the LOS fouls

Dead Ball Officiating Observe the clock when ball becomes dead Proper setting and starting of 40/25 Starting/stopping clock Good clear signals

Penalty Enforcement Administer correctly Get correct player number Get all info for game report

Be Prepared Keep fit Know the rules, study Good pre-game preparation

Concentration Keep your head in the game at all times Be aware of down, distance and line to gain Anticipate the play not the call

Communication Communicate with the other officials Keep coaches informed Let players know you are present

Conclusion The small stuff is important By being prepared, concentrating and communicating you are able to catch the small stuff. You maintain credibility when making the tough call if you handle routine calls correctly.
