Study Habits Mid-Quarter 3

What now?  Progress Reports  Are you satisfied/happy with your grades?  What do these grades mean?  The semester is ¼ over  Your grade is cumulative  You have three more months to go  to improve?  to slack?  Your goal should be to enter finals with as high of a grade as possible in May.

Choices you have  Academic Travel  Accessing the tutoring center in the library  Talking with your teachers  Utilizing time wisely

Academic Travel Available every Thursday, during Cougar Connection

Why do I need academic travel?  Did you have to leave early for a sporting event?  Were you sick a day?  Do you need common time for a group project?  Do you need to get work in advance for an upcoming absence?  Do you need to find common time with one of your teachers?

Academic Travel Rules  Every week during Cougar Connection, students will have time to access their teachers.  Students MUST have a PRE-SIGNED pass from the teacher or counselor they are going to see.  Pass can be found on R:Drive  Absolutely no student will be allowed to travel without a pre-signed pass from the teacher they are going to see.

What can I do during academic travel?  Make up quizzes  Make up tests  Make up a lab  Homework help  Discuss missing assignments  Pull up Zangle with respective teacher

Academic travel pass  Student Name  Teacher Name  Teacher signature  Date of CC  Reason for travel  Student and teacher must agree on why and what student will be doing during this time. (i.e. make-up quiz from Sept 4) STUDENTS MUST HAVE PRE-SIGNED PASS TO TRAVEL Coronado High School Cougar Connection

Choices you have  Academic Travel  Accessing the tutoring center in the library  Talking with your teachers  Utilizing time wisely

Choices you have  Academic Travel  Accessing the tutoring center in the library  Talking with your teachers  Utilizing time wisely

How to ask for help from your teachers? What NOT to ask:What to ask instead: “Why am I failing?”“I noticed that I’m failing, and I need to make up a test.” “What’s my grade?”“I noticed that my grade is dropping. Can I get some help with _____?” “I don’t get it.”“I am still confused. Can you please show me another example?” “I don’t understand these concepts. Do you think you could sign a pass so I could come during academic travel?”

How often and when to ask for help?  Ask for help until you get it!  Ask any teacher for additional help.  Ask before or after class or during individual work time.  Be prepared  Have a specific question.  Know what you are missing by pre-checking on Q.

Student Connect/ Q Click student tab Click student connect Identification # = Full Student ID# Password = Network Login [all capital letters] without last digit (Example: SMITHAB123) (first 5 letters of your last name, first initial, middle initial: SMITHAB) Can check student connect from any computer at any time!

Teacher Websites Do not ask: “What did I miss?” 1. Check teacher website. Go to Click teacher websites on left hand side 2. Check Q. 3. Check resources in room (i.e. calendar, white board). 4. Ask your teacher. aspx

Choices you have  Academic Travel  Accessing the tutoring center in the library  Talking with your teachers  Utilizing time wisely

Utilizing Time Wisely  Spend more time on homework!  If you have study hall, USE IT!  Procrastination = stress and last minute work; stay on top of your studies!  If you are absent, find out what you missed the next day!

Quarter 3 Ends on March 8! Stay strong, Cougars!
