GTPE 6 June 2013E.PEREZ-DUENAS & D.LACARRERE2 In brief the project of the LHCb new buildings for the upgrade phase at Pit 8 consists of three parts. Part 1 : New building for housing the LHCb Control Room (LCR) + meeting room & offices + new Machine Cryogenics Control Room - Project approved – under way. Part 2 : New buildings for assembly and storage (for replacing the building 156 which was allocated to the LHCb Experiment until 2013 – now foreseen & dedicated to the CLIC & HL-LHC activities) – Project in discussion with CLIC & Hl-LHC. Part 3 : Servers in containers (in front of the SHM8) – LHCb project in preparation. The part 1 of the project has been already approved (2012) and studies are under way with GS department & EN/EL & CV (current status – detailed drawings for call for tenders foreseen in Summer 2013). In the following presentation we describe only the part 2 of the global project, which consists of the proposal for the construction of two new buildings (B & C) dedicated to assembly the detectors & storage, in order to replace the 156 building lost by the LHCb Experiment - details please refer to Fig.2 & Fig.3. The main characteristics of the two future buildings (B & C) are summarized and compared to the existing buildings 156 (MEYRIN site) and SX8 (building from DELPHI at Pit8) in Table 1.

GTPE 6 June 2013E.PEREZ-DUENAS & D.LACARRERE10 In first approach, the LHCb Experiment leaving the 156 building to the LH-LHC & CLIC activities, is losing roughly 880 m2 for its detector assembly activities and storage. In order to replace this lack of space for LHCb, our proposal is the construction of two new buildings B & C (*). The B building (112 m2) will be dedicated to the storage (or workshop) and the C building (roughly 485 m2) will be oriented to the assembly of the large detector components such as SUPER-RICH for instance. The total surface required is of the order of 600 m2, compared to 880 m2 lost. The total cost is currently estimated to about 2.2 – 2.3 MCHF including general services (ventilation & heating systems, electrical distribution) and cranes. The tentative of the cost breakdown is shown in Table 2. (numbers to be confirmed by GS, EN/EL & CV). The schedule should be as follows : - Construction Permit Request + detailed drawings in Call for tenders in Spring 2014 – Contract Adjudication in June Start construction in January Reception buildings (B & C) end of (*) unfortunately two buildings due to the space constraints at Pit 8 Summary
