In the novel Changes in Latitudes, Teddy is committed to saving the endangered Sea Turtles from poachers and factors that are causing the turtles population to dwindle. In this WebQuest, the students will act as researchers for the World Wild Life foundation in the study of four different endangered Sea Turtles. The students will work in groups of four and each pick one turtle to research and share the results with the rest of their group. In the individual research, the student must find physical characteristics of their turtle, where they live, their current population, and the factors that are pushing them to extinction (i.e. environmental factors, poachers, medical factors, other animals, etc.), and why they are important to have around. They must fill out a worksheet to answer all of these important facts about their turtle and share their results with the rest of their group. The group members must compare their findings and come up with which turtle they believe is the most endangered and ways to help and/or prevent their extinction. Each group will then have five minutes to present a WWF commercial to the class explaining why the turtle is in danger and what people can do to help stop them from going extinct. Six out of the seven species of marine turtles are listed as endangered or critically endangered with no signs of improvement! It is YOUR job to help save the turtles from becoming extinct by recognizing the endangering factors and spreading awareness through a televised commercial so people can stop harming and start helping these cute turtles to live on! Click here to get a little background on the endangerment of marine turtles from the World Wildlife Fund.here OverviewOverview Introduction Process Resources Evaluation ConclusionIntroductionProcessResourcesEvaluationConclusion

OverviewOverview Introduction Process Resources Evaluation ConclusionIntroductionProcessResourcesEvaluationConclusion In a group of four people, each member will pick a specific sea turtle from the following slide to research. Using the World Wildlife Fund website linked to the picture of the turtle you chose, you can read the information on the site and fill out this worksheet to keep track of your research. After collecting your data, you will compare your findings with the other members of your group to fill out the Group Sea Turtle Chart. Using this chart decide as a group which Sea Turtle you believe is the most in danger OR which Sea Turtle you believe you can help the most with raised public awareness. When you have picked which turtle you would like to help out the most, prepare a five minute commercial from the WWF about your turtle, explain why your Sea Turtle is endangered, and how the people watching can (and should!) help save them from extinction.worksheet Group Sea Turtle Chart

OverviewOverview Introduction Process Resources Evaluation ConclusionIntroductionProcessResourcesEvaluationConclusion The World Wildlife Fund wants to thank you so much for your help protecting the endangered Sea Turtles! Thanks to you and your group’s hard work, the public is now more informed on what they can do to help save these poor creatures! Sometimes the reason most people don’t get involved is because they simply aren’t informed about the topic and now thanks to you, they are! We hope you continue your efforts in saving the endangered Sea Turtles and other endangered species across the world!!
