© Services GmbH Getting started What is a PROJECT? Result-oriented undertaking … Implemented within the following constraints:  specification  time  budget

© Services GmbH Getting started What is a COLLABORATIVE PROJECT? Virtual temporary ENTITY… Established to achieve the common goal… Run by internal management bodies, rules and procedures Composed of partner organizations complementing each other

© Services GmbH Question 1 Why scientists need project managers (research facilitators) while writing RTD proposals? Sub-question: what distinguishes a project proposal and a research paper? Significant volume of required non-scientific information Embedded PM knowledge and skills MAIN: the purpose

© Services GmbH Answer 1 RTD project proposal is not a research publication, but rather a selling paper written to compete for money

© Services GmbH Question 2 What is proposal writing? An effort to produce a document capable of successful competition for RTD funding (what makes it competitive?) In accordance with requirements of the funding agency (the EC) Within a very strict timeframe (deadline is deadline…) With certain and limited resources (capable people, money,…) Writing a project proposal is a project in its own right!!!

© Services GmbH What makes a proposal successful… Innovative interesting idea in line with the Call’s priorities Obvious progress beyond state-of-the-art and strong impacts Robust and balanced work plan Capable consortium with internal logics Clear and explicit language highlighting all advantages, easy-to-read and understand document
