WALT:

Getting started: 1/3  In your topic study book  Date What do I know about plants/flower

Getting started: 2/3  1. What is a plant?  2. Draw and label a plant – be detailed and show all parts.  3. Why do we need plants?  4. Draw and label the life cycle of a plant.  5. Complete the following statements:  Seeds are dispersed ….  Pollination is when ….  Pollinators are ….  Plants are useful …  Germination is …  Photosynthesis is … ….6.

Getting started: 3/3  Fertilization is when ….  6. What else do I know about plants?  7. Write down any questions you might have about plants – then take your questions to your teacher to add to the list.

Questions: 1/3  Where do seeds come from?  How do seeds drink and eat? How can seeds absorb water? Why do plants need water?  How does a seed grow / develop?  How do you know how old a tree is?  Could we live without plants?  How many different plants are there in the world?  How do flowers make pollen?  How old will plants grow?  How do trees grow fruit on them?  How tall do trees grow? Why don’t they continue growing?  Why do plants drop leaves?

Questions: 2/3  What are plants truly based on?  How long will it take for plants to grow?  How old is a tree that is an adult?  How many petals are on flowers?  How is it that plants have different colour flowers?  Where do seeds come from?  What happens to the seed shell after the plant has grown?  What is pollen made of?  What do plants and trees have in common?  How is pollen turned into honey?  Do they communicate? How do plants communicate?  How do plants cope with different environments?  Do plants actually breathe?

Questions: 3/3  Why do plants need leaves?  How long do plants live?  How long have they been around?  How tall will trees grow?  How does pollination work?  How do you know a male plant from a female plant?  What is germination? How does it work?  Why do plants need water, sun and oxygen?  Are there deadly plants in NZ?  How will we know a plant is poisonous?  How high is the tallest tree in the world?  What does photosynthesis mean?  Do flowers make other flowers when they spread their roots?  How does fertiliser help plants grow?

Questions: 4/ (Compulsory questions)  What are the different ways of dispersal?  Complete an “Interesting facts” slide about the wackiest plant you could find.  What's the difference between a fruit and a vegetable?  What do plants need to make food?  Take a photo of a tree in the school ground – identify the tree and describe the special features. (How will I identify the plant)  Complete an “Interesting facts” slide about moss/lichen/fern  What does the word "pollination" mean? Explain pollination.  What are plant adaptations? (biome)  Explain the different plant groups.

Planning my research: (write in my topic book)  My questions:  Select any 5 questions from the list that interest you.  Add any 5 of the compulsory questions to your list.  XX will help me find the answers for my research.  I will use XX to find the answers of my research.  I have to finish my research by XX  I will share my information by creating a PowerPoint presentation.

PowerPoint

Question  Picture or photo  Include labels by using “insert”  You should understand and know all the facts for when you present your findings to the class.  1 or 2 slides per question / answer  Use short, simple sentences - your own words.  Remember to start with an introduction  Bibliography at the end for each slide (slide 1 – www…)  Check your work for accuracy.
