IHEP Atlas Week June 2008 UT Dallas Group ■ Faculty Joe Izen and Xinchou Lou ■ Staff and Students postdocs – Eugene Galyaev, H Mashana system adm – Donald Moore graduate students – Masa Kondo, Wei Cheng Wong, Brandom Drummond ■ Participation in Atlas Pixel Detector Tier 3 Computing & Grid Physics

IHEP Atlas Week June 2008 Physics Interests and Ideas ■ X c,Y c, & Z c (X b, Y b, & Z b ) states at LHC map out X c, Y c, & Z c and similar states discover new X b,Y b, & Z b states unveil new spectroscopy of hadrons? ■ B s Physics ■ The Higgs in Hadronic Modes EM & hadronic calorimetry

IHEP Atlas Week June 2008 Beyond the Quark Model of Mesons The discovery and identification of a new spectroscopy seems close X c,Y c,Z c → J/  or with content Basically all states below the open charm threshold are observed and explained; X, Y & Z do not fit in. R. Faccini, LP07 M(MeV) J PC (2S+1) L J Open charm thr.  (3770)  (4040)  (4160) (pot. Models) cc ’c’c J/  ’’  c2  c1  c0 hchc X Z X,Y  (4415) Yet another particle: X(4160) [  c (3S)?]

IHEP Atlas Week June 2008 Production of the  and the Upsilon States (possibly X c/b, Y c/b, Z c/b ) rates are NOT known for X c/b, Y c/b, Z c/b at LHC Heavy Q Prod in hadron- hadron Leading Order Next to LO CDF, DØ Run I 10% charm hidden (G. A. Schuler)

IHEP Atlas Week June 2008 Production of the  States at LHC J. Campbell et. al. rates are NOT known for X c/b, Y c/b, Z c/b at LHC

IHEP Atlas Week June 2008 Production of the Upsilon States at LHC J. Campbell et. al. rates are NOT known for X c/b, Y c/b, Z c/b at LHC

IHEP Atlas Week June 2008 MC Simulation of Y c,b  (J/  or  (nS))     From Wei Cheng Wong8 Generate Ψ(2S) -> J/Ψ ππ using Pythia 6.4 –Physics: pp -> gg -> c c-bar (J/Ψ, replaced by Ψ(2S)) g, and Ψ(2S) -> J/Ψ ππ. –Modify the JobOption file to use with Pythia 6.4 on lxplus. –Change the KFPR type to produce Ψ(2S) instead of J/Ψ. –Change the MDME type to turn on Ψ(2S) -> J/Ψ ππ, and turn off all other decays. Generate Y c (4260) -> J/Ψ ππ –Physics: pp -> gg -> c c-bar (J/Ψ, replaced by Y c (4260)) g, and Y c (4260) -> J/Ψ ππ. –Change the PMAS type to set the mass of Ψ(2S) to 4.26 GeV. –Turn on Ψ(2S) -> J/Ψ ππ only; to produce Y c (4260) -> J/Ψ ππ.

IHEP Atlas Week June 2008 Y c (4260) π J/Ψ From Wei Cheng Wong

IHEP Atlas Week June Similarly we generate a hypothetical  b (10.5)  ϒ (1S) π+ π- Y b (10.5) π ϒ (1S) From Wei Cheng Wong

IHEP Atlas Week June To Work on the Grid (Panda) Running the Full Chain – running batch jobs on lxplus –Generated 100 events of Y c (4260) -> J/Ψ ππ –Simulation of Atlas, Digitization and Event reconstruction done on lxplus Test of code –Produce the AOD Plan to do –Running on the Grid (by using Panda) to produce the AOD files of Y c (4260) and Y b (10.5) and their decay processes. –Studying the Monte Carlo events with physics analysis code From Wei Cheng Wong
