What are landforms? Landforms are the natural shapes or features called landforms. There are many different types of landforms found on the earth.
Mountains A mountain is a place on Earth’s surface that is much higher than the land around it.
Valley A valley is a lowland area between hills or mountains.
Delta A fan shaped deposit at the mouth of the river.
Canyon A canyon is a V shaped valley that was eroded by a river.
Plains A plain is a flat area on Earth’s surface. (grassland)
Floodplain Land that gets covered by water during a flood.
Plateau A plateau is a flat area higher than the land around it.
Island An island is land that is completely surrounded by water.
Lakes A lake is water that is completely surrounded by land.
Oceans Oceans are the largest bodies of water on earth.
Desert A desert is an environment that gets very little rain and has extreme temperatures.
Dunes A mound or hill made of wind blown sand.
Coast A coast is the area where the ocean touches the land.
Rivers A river is a long flowing body of water.
